What is CBD?

Short answer:

Cannabidiol, aka CBD, is a derivative from the cannabis plant. Unlike its cannabinoid sister THC, CBD is non-psychoactive meaning that one could benefit from a myriad of therapeutic properties without getting “high” or impaired.

LONG ANSWER:

CBD is one of over 100 compounds, known as cannabinoids, found in cannabis. It is the second most abundant cannabinoid — after tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) — and composes up to 40% of the plant’s extract (1). Interestingly enough, our bodies naturally produce endocannabinoids which serve an essential role in regulating many of our day-to-day functions. The human endocannabinoid system is responsible for how our bodies respond when partaking in CBD (or THC) infused products. Research suggests that CBD could reduce anxiety, inflammation, and relieve pain.

Other names frequently used interchangeably with CBD include: hemp or full-spectrum hemp oil

Hemp consists of genetic strains that are higher in CBD while marijuana strains are higher in THC. There seems to still be a lot confusion and speculation regarding the legality of CBD infused products in states where marijuana is still illegal. While some (NOT ALL) CBD infused products are not THC-free, they still fall below the federal legal limit of .3% THC. Furthermore, since full spectrum hemp oils are high in CBD and low in THC, these oils will not affect your mental processes, mood, or cognition.
